From Piece of Mind to Peace of Mind: Erasing the Negative Stigma of Mental Health
by Mattie Stevenson
In today’s world, mental illness is a serious issue too many people ignore. Mental illness does not discriminate against gender, race, age, or economic status. Who would want to identify as having a mental illness? Who wants to think that something is wrong with their mental state and being? Too many ignore mental illness with the hopes it will go away or the mind will heal itself because we live in a world where mental illness is frowned upon. Many people go undiagnosed and untreated due to embarrassment.
We have to love ourselves to know that dealing with mental health is part of God`s process. He desires us to be in perfect peace. The term mental health should not have negative stigma associated with it. Mental health is exactly that; your mind needs to be healthy. In life, you will face numerous obstacles and challenges. Ecclesiastes 3 reminds us that there is a time for everything. You have suffered with the torment in your mind for too long. It is time for your healing. This is only a testimony! I hope my story allows you to live in freedom and elicit power to pursue a wholesome life. It is time for a piece of mind to become peace of mind.
